MasterPlan Alliance - Q & A

Page 1 - What's It All About...
Why is the MasterPlan Alliance Continuum divided into three parts: the Strategy Retreat, Foundation-For- Success, and Quest For The Best?

Experience has shown that it takes two to three months to absorb and implement the highly customized strategies that are developed in each of the Continuum sessions. Since implementation is the key to success, you and your mentor will develop a time table that best meets your needs.

If I’m already financially secure, what will I get out of the Planning Retreat?

Over 20% of the Alliance’s clients are already on track to become financially independent when they walk through the door. Their goal is to make sure they are getting the most out of their investments and continue to do so. They also know that dentistry is changing rapidly and they want to position their practices to maintain the highest level of return on their investment.

If I already have a personal financial planner and a plan, can I skip that part of the program?

Yes. The Alliance prides itself on its ability to tailor each member's program to their needs.

With all this focus on money, what about quality dentistry?

Quality care costs money to provide. Continuing education, professional staff, and great equipment all cost money. It is difficult to continue to provide quality care if you are not meeting your personal and professional lifestyle goals.

The more financially successful you are, the easier it is to provide quality care. And, to make it even easier, each of the strategies provided through the Alliance is based on increasing quality patient care.

What’s all this talk about "core values"?

Jim and Suzanne learned years ago that financial plans, whether personal or practice, that are based solely on the numbers are doomed to fail.

What does work is identifying your core values and reconciling them with your spouse as a basis for setting a common set of personal goals. Once these are set, you can move ahead as a couple with a united purpose, using your core values and goals as the driving forces for both your personal and practice plans.

  What's all this psycho-babble mean?

For example, a core value of enhancing family life may lead to personal goals of reducing your work schedule for more family time, or adding a room to your home. Your situation will be unique. Together with your spouse, you will determine your personal requirements for financial independence, acquire tools for balancing the financial demands of your various goals, and lay out a step-by-step action plan to achieve your goals.

Will I have to stand up and "share" my values with the group, get naked in a hot tub, or hug a lot of people?

No. If you want to do those things, we suggest you do them with your spouse or significant other.

Why should I spend seven days doing this?

If you already have a detailed road map to personal and practice financial success for the rest of your life, you probably shouldn’t come. If not, isn’t it about time? Or, do you want to be living in a trailer park at age 70 - just hoping for a tornado to come and end your misery?

Why do I have to be interviewed before I can become an Alliance member?

Two reasons. The first is that we want to be sure that the Alliance will be able to meet your needs. Successful members are our greatest source of referrals for new members. If your situation is such that we think you would be better served through a different approach, we will point you in that direction.

Second, the Alliance client list has become one of the elite assemblages of doctors in America. It is made up of two groups: the heavy hitters and the soon-to-be-heavy hitters. Success breeds success. Members often volunteer personal time and energy to help each other work through problems. In either case, the Alliance tries its best to assure that no bozos are admitted.

Who will be my Mentor?

Your mentor is assign based on your personal situation. Mentors are people who have worked with the Alliance over the years and have acquired the depth of knowledge necessary to coach you through the implementation of your practice action plans.

Page 2 -  Don't be a WUSS.  Go for it?
Will I ever meet my mentor face-to-face?

Yes. Normally, you will meet and work with your mentor throughout your initial Strategy Retreat. The two of you will customize your practice’s management action plan. Each month, you’ll meet for a pre-scheduled tele-consult to review your Practice Progress Report and your action plans.

Plus, each quarter, you, your mentor, Jim and Suzanne, and your core Alliance group will meet by special teleconference to review advanced strategies. In these sessions, you will use the power of the MasterPlan group to develop solutions for the really tough problems.

When do I meet with my mentor, and how much time will I have with him/her each month?

Because many of our mentors are doctors, and we don’t want to be constantly interrupting their production, we schedule all of their tele-consults on one or two days each month. Each consultation will last for up to 45 minutes. At the end of the consultation, you will jointly schedule your next date. This allows each of you the maximum flexibility.

Who pays for the telephone call?

You will be given a toll-free 800 number to call your mentor - there will be no extra charges to you.

What happens if I need assistance outside of my scheduled appointment time?

You may call your mentor to schedule an appointment time that is mutually agreeable. However, you will be charged at a minimum rate of $75 per half hour.

What happens if I miss an appointment?

You’re a doctor. By now, you should understand the economics of running a business. There is no such thing as a missed appointment with your Alliance mentor.

What will I be doing with my mentor?

At each consult, you’ll begin by reviewing your customized Practice Progress Report, a graphic analysis of your current situation. Second, you’ll review your progress on your practice’s business action plan.

Third, you’ll check your progress on implementing the marketing and team leadership action plans that you and your mentor developed at the Foundation For Success session. And finally, your mentor will coach you through implementation of the advanced systems and team building strategies on which you and your team were trained as part of the Quest For The Best program.

What’s covered in my monthly Progress Reports?

At the end of each month, you’ll send in an easy-to-complete data form that is prepared by either you or a staff member. If you are computerized, it can be automatically generated from your WIN-WIN Profit Management Software. Using this information, we will prepare your Practice Progress Report. Ten key areas will be examined and graphed. Trend lines will be analyzed so that we can anticipate any problems and correct them before they cost you money.

What’s this WIN-WIN software?

The WIN-WIN software was originally developed as a team bonus system to monitor results and act as an incentive system to reinforce the strategies you want to implement in your practice. The program has been expanded to work as a complete Profit Management System and/or as an incentive system. You and your mentor will determine how best to use it in your practice.

What if I have a bonus system in place already?

If it is working to motivate your team every day, week and month to produce more, collect everything that's owed you and improve patient care - keep it.

Customization is what the Alliance is about.  It is not about forcing you to use some cookie cutter system an aging dental guru developed in his practice twenty  years ago that worked for him.

Will the WIN-WIN program duplicate features of my dental management system?

No. The WIN-WIN program works side-by-side with your dental management software. They have completely different functions and should complement each other.

Will the WIN-WIN software work on my type of computer?

The WIN-WIN software is standard, single-user, IBM/DOS compatible. It will run on any IBM compatible computer in DOS, or in DOS under Windows95/98. If you don’t have an IBM compatible computer, we have simple written forms that you can use to generate the necessary information manually.

How much does the WIN-WIN software cost?

Including custom setup, WIN-WIN costs $1,250. For Alliance Continuum members, the cost is included in your Continuum membership fee.

How much time does it take to set up the WIN-WIN software?

Before you attend your initial Strategy Retreat, you’ll send in your key practice statistics. The Alliance staff will enter these into your WIN-WIN software for you. You’ll leave the Retreat completely set up and ready to go. Nothing could be easier.

What happens if I have a question about the software?

Your mentor, during your monthly coaching sessions, will handle philosophical questions about the program. The Alliance support staff will handle technical questions.

Why do you gather our data before the Retreat?

In customizing your personal and practice action plans, a certain amount of number crunching is necessary. Rather than waste your time in the Retreat running calculations, we find it a lot easier to pre-analyze your situation and provide you with the customized strategies that can easily be integrated into your action plans.

What does my New Patient Action Plan include?

One of the primary gold bricks that most doctors never realize is in the area of new patient marketing. During your Foundation-For-Success session, you’ll learn the actual net contribution to overhead of each new patient - after expenses like lab, supplies and collections loss are taken out. The calculation will be customized for your practice.

You will then use this patient value analysis to determine which of the fifteen or more marketing strategies reviewed give you the best return on investment for your time and money.

Full Continuum members will then meet with your mentors to customize a New Patient Action Plan based on the economics in your practice, your style of dentistry, your patient demographics, and the goals for increased production and income that you set during your initial Retreat.

Page 3 - Yes, you can live a life of quite desperation.  Or, you can go for it!

Can I just go for the Marketing program and skip the rest of the Continuum?

Yes. Every service the Alliance provides is customized. We are not a one-size-fits-all organization. However, there are two things you should be aware of if you decide to cherry-pick the sessions. First, you’ll miss out on the group dynamic of the Alliance support structure. This means no monthly mentoring support, ongoing practice analysis, quarterly teleconferences and our outrageously fantastic annual meeting.

Second, it will cost you more money to purchase each service separately.

Why is a Team Action Plan important?

Over the years, Jim Du Molin has found that quality staff and their proper management is one of the basic keys to practice financial success. In today’s lawsuit-crazy world, there are certain tools and systems that should be used to protect you from being abused by a disgruntled staff member. As part of our Foundation- For-Success program the Team Leadership and Management session provides you with a step-by-step program for developing, managing, and maintaining the greatest team of dedicated, quality people you could ever imagine.

What do I get with the Team Management program?

Team Organizational Strategy & Job Descriptions  This system will help you organize your team with detailed job descriptions that will maximize patient care and delineate each team member's daily responsibilities. The job descriptions are provided in both hard-copy and computer disk format for easy editing.

Dental Staff Policy Manual  This easily-customized policy manual is designed to lay out the "rules of the game" for your staff. It is an invaluable tool for resolving the many questions that staff have regarding day-to-day policy.

Even more important, this manual is designed to proactively protect you from the many legal pitfalls we all face with our employees. The manual comes in both hard copy and on computer disk so you can easily edit it to meet your needs.

Dental Staff Management System  This complete system details how to hire quality staff, do comprehensive performance reviews based on each team member's customized job description, solve disciplinary problems, and legally terminate staff.

Five-Minute Daily Audit  Twenty-seven percent of all dental practices are currently being embezzled. Because we review each of our practice’s underlying numbers, we uncover one to two potential embezzlements a month. You’ll learn how to recognize the ten most important indicators of a possible embezzlement and how to protect yourself with a simple daily auditing system.

WIN-WIN Team Bonus System*  To help you motivate your staff to implement your strategies and goals, the Alliance provides you with the comprehensive WIN-WIN staff motivation and bonus program. This program motivates staff with daily, weekly, and monthly bonuses that cost you nothing... all increases in pay come from increases in practice production and collections, not from your pocket. It really works, as many of our members can tell you.

Full Continuum members receive either the computerized or paper format of the complete WIN-WIN Team Bonus system. Your mentor will help you determine whether the WIN-WIN program is right for your situation.

Who should I bring to the Quest For The Best program?

For many doctors, your initial Strategy Retreat and follow-up Team Leadership and Marketing Workshop will meet your needs and keep you very busy for your initial membership year. Other doctors will go

home, shoot the "turkeys" on their teams, hire quality replacements, implement the appropriate marketing strategies, and ask "What’s next?"

The "Quest for the Best" program is a comprehensive three-day, hands-on training program for you and all of your team members in three critical areas.

Doctor Leadership & Practice Direction

Core Skills Training

Team Building

Conflict Resolution

Each team member will have his or her own curriculum of joint and specialized training. You and your mentor will decide which of your team would benefit from the program.

As the doctor, there will be no additional fee for your personal attendance at the "Quest for the Best" Team Building program - so long as you attend the program within twelve months of your initial Strategy Retreat.

I understand the "MasterPlan" idea, but what’s this "Alliance" thing about?

The MasterPlan Alliance is based on the "MasterMind" concept originally articulated by Napoleon Hill, author of one of the most published books in modern time, Think and Grow Rich. It is based on the concept that many minds working together in harmony, focused on a common goal, will have better success in achieving that goal than one mind working alone.

How does the Alliance actually implement the "MasterMind" concept?

First is the MasterPlan Alliance Group Meetings. You’ll meet with Jim & Suzanne Du Molin, your mentor, and your fellow members by telephone every three months to review your successes and use the power of the MasterPlan group to solve problems and overcome barriers.

Each of these MasterPlan meetings is held in the evening, so as not to interrupt your daily production. Using advanced telephone technology, you will be able to call into a central teleconferencing center that will link you up with all of your fellow MasterPlan members.

What are the other methods the Alliance uses to implement the "MasterPlan" concept?

The Alliance is a network of doctors who have come together to share what works best and support each other in achieving their individual goals. In addition to your monthly management report and mentoring session, Continuum members receive at least two more management updates during the year on those ideas that are getting the best results. This fresh flow of ideas keeps you on the cutting edge of the dental profession.

What if my mentor doesn’t have an answer to my problem?

The Alliance’s mentors are great people, but you should not expect them, Jim and Suzanne Du Molin, or even your MasterPlan group to have all the answers. No one consultant or group can master all the different disciplines needed to meet the requirements of running a dental practice today. Further, there will be times when you may need one-on-one, face-to-face assistance to resolve a problem in your office. That’s why the Alliance created the MasterPlan Advisory Board.

Advisory Board Members are the top national consultants in their fields of expertise. They are also available to help when your needs go beyond your mentor’s level of experience.

Why does the Continuum take 7 days of training and a full year of support?

Two reasons. First, this is your life we are talking about. It’s going to take some dedicated time to resolve some complex financial issues. Second, we want to allow you and your "significant other" plenty of private time to examine, work through and process the results.

Most people spend more time planning their vacations than planning their lives. The amount of time you spend at the Continuum is insignificant relative to getting the next thirty years of your personal and practice life on track for financial success.  Let’s take the time to do it right the first time.

What happens after the first year?

You will be given the option of renewing your ongoing support services annually at a very modest rate.

All this sounds great. Where do I sign up?

The next step is to call the Alliance’s office to schedule a qualifying interview with an Alliance Enroller.

We want to spend about 20 minutes with you on the telephone to be absolutely sure the MasterPlan Alliance Program is right for you.

Our team is available to talk with you until
6:00 p.m. most evenings. There is no charge for this consultation. And, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions about the program without interrupting your production during the day.
